Preliminary

Globalization has been both side effects to many countries over the world. Without explaining much, we can see how obvious it is the positive effect of Globalization, such an expanded international relation that will affect the trading, economic sectors, and so on. The definition of Globalization itself by Anthony Giddens is the acceleration of social relationships and abolishing the boundaries among countries. Referring to the definition, Globalization permits us to do anything globally in many sectors, let’s say in the economic sector, health care sectors, etc. These effects ease us to do anything without noticing the borders.

Unfortunately, we couldn’t abandon the negative effects while we praise the positive effects of Globalization that much. If Globalization affects everything by abolishing the boundaries, it possibly eases criminal deeds to take place, one of them is a human rights violation. Human right has been an issue for many years and it took a long history to go to the current circumstance. The issue of human rights consists of many forms, and the most concerning one is human trafficking. Through Globalization, human trafficking will be easily spread, and also the doer could hunt for more victims abroad, particularly in Indonesia that entitled to the one that has the highest human trafficking. It might result in a great query,

“How does Globalization affect human trafficking in Indonesia?”.

The Subject Matter

Indonesia has been known as a populous country. The amount of population will attract the doer to look for more victims, and in Indonesia is listed as a country with a high rate of human trafficking. In this time, Indonesia is a place for transit and the market of human trafficking. This happening issue has a long history with a historical patriarch in Indonesia since the colonialism of Netherland and Japan. A daughter frequently was asked to serve herself to the king by her parents and they would be rewarded for “selling” their daughter. It’s obviously human trafficking, undoubtedly. The historical patriarch has strengthened the form of human trafficking in Indonesia this time. Approximately every year, 700–1000 women in Indonesia are transmitted for the sake of human trafficking. It’s not merely international human trafficking, it also happens domestically.

Internationally, the kind of human trafficking that happens is a transnational marriage. Transnational marriage is about ordering a woman from Indonesia, especially in this case from Singkawang, West Kalimantan, that is asked before by the man in Taiwan. The woman gets forced to do it due to financial issues. Domestically, Globalization accelerates the transmission of interzonal human trafficking. From the data, the most transmitted humans in Jakarta were from Indramayu. It eases the doer in Jakarta to connect with another doer in Indramayu, hence they could work together easier to transmit the victims.

More than that, human trafficking isn’t limited by transmitting the people, it could cause abusive deeds within. The doer intentionally dragged the head of the victim to the wall, hence she didn’t want to serve the man. It happened in Tanjunga Balai Karimun when the place was investigated and the polices founded 100 women that admitted they were treated abusively.

It’s clear enough to know how affecting Globalization is to human trafficking in Indonesia. Despite it gives us ease in doing many things, it also gives us more challenges facing more troubles, let’s say the escalation of the victims of human trafficking.

Conclusion

By the explained narratives above, we all know that it is obvious, Globalization has been affecting many aspects of life by giving its both side effects, positive and negative. Human trafficking is one of the affected aspects and it has been a crucial issue along the years go on. By Globalization, human trafficking is spread easily and rapidly, particularly in Indonesia that has the high rate of human trafficking in the world.

By realizing so, the authority needs to make a change towards human trafficking in order to protect their rights, in terms of human rights. They, the victims, also have the rights to be protected, to have guaranteed lives, and so on relating to human rights.
